William ROEBUCK was the oldest of four children born to John ROEBUCK of Rotherham

William ROEBUCK, a coal miner, married Rebecca HIRST of Holmefirth, on 10th May 1802 at St Mary's Ecclesfield and the 1841 census shows the couple with their 3 coal miner sons, Josh., John and George living at Potter Hill.

George PARKIN, the son of John PARKIN of Oughty Bridge was baptised at St. Mary's church, Ecclesfield on 6th October 1910.

Arabella married George PARKIN, an Agricultural labourer of Ecclesfield on 31st March 1834 at Ecclesfield. The couple were living in  Shire Green when their first daughter, Anne was baptised on 14th September 1834 at Ecclesfield. Sarah, their second daughter was born in 1836 and then, on 5th September 1837, Harriot was born at Low Shire Green.

The 1841 census enumerator for Shire Green had difficulty with Arabella's name and she is recorded as "Harrou bella" PARKIN, but the three girls are all present, Ann aged 6, Sarah aged 5 and Harriet aged 3.

In 1843 the couple's first son George is born and shortly after this the family move to Darfield, where on 11th October 1846, their second  son, Joseph PARKIN is baptised.

The 1851 census shows George with Ann B. (sic Arabella), daughter Harriet aged 13 and sons George aged 8, Joseph aged 4 and Tom aged 11 months living in Hemingfield.

A separate entry in the 1851 census at Alderthwaite, Hoyland records  Harriet PARKIN aged 16, a house servant, with 'visitors' Joseph, aged 9 and Eliza aged 2..

This entry is significant because in 1858 a Harriot PARKIN gives birth to John PARKIN on 13th October at Alderthwaite and 2 years later the 1861 census reveals George and Isabella (sic Arabella) at Alderthwaite with sons, Joseph aged 14, Thomas aged 11, Henry aged 8 and John aged 2 years. Harriet in this census is 23, still unmarried, and  a Kitchen Servant to farmer George Russell and his wife in Upper Hoyland.

In the 1881 Census George and Arabellla , now aged 72 and 71 respectively are living at Nether Field, Hoyland Nether with 'sons' Thomas age 31 and John age 22, both of whom are coal miners; Son George has married Elizabeth from Normanton, Nottinghamshire and they have 4 sons and 4 daughters; Joseph is married to Ann  and Henry has married Annie Elizabeth  from Staveley and they have 2 sons and a daughter.

George PARKIN died on 16th March 1885, and his death certificate confirms that John, the informant, was his grandson!

One month later, on 19th April 1885,  John married Amy HODGSON, at St Peter's Church Hoyland, and their daughter Florence was born on 13th June 1885.
