Annie Elizabeth BUCKLEY (1888 ~ 1976)

 and The WHORTONS

 Annie Elizabeth BUCKLEY  was born on 28th December 1888 at 189 South Street Eccleshall Bierlow, the second child of  Joel, a Journeyman Shoemaker and Elizabeth BUCKLEY.

In the 1891 census the family were living at 31 High Street, Grantham, Lincs when the couples' third child Edith was born on 1st February 1891.

The 1901 Census records the family living at Barugh Green near Barnsley, Joel is still plying his shoemaker trade.

Joel Buckley died on 4th January 1909 and John William married the following year. The family at this time were living at 'The Cottage' Middle Ings, Hoyland. and must have moved across the road to 57 Gill Street shortly afterwards. This address also appears on Annie Elizabeth's marriage certificate and on John William's son George's birth certificate.

 

Annie Elizabeth BUCKLEY and Leonard WHORTON married at the Wesleyan Chapel in Hoyland on  28th May 1912 . 

 

 

In the Group photograph, Elizabeth, Annie's mother is sitting just behind and on Annie's right.

Leonard's parents, David and Annie WHORTON are immediately behind the Bride and Groom .

To the right of the picture Annie's brother, John William, is sporting a moustache and on his right is his wife Florence with 17month old Edith Annie (Nance)

Annie and Leonard had two daughters, Dorothy born on 6th August 1913 and Mabel, who was born in the Autumn of 1915.

Leonard died on 23 March 1948 and Annie Elizabeth on 11th July 1976.

They are buried in Elsecar churchyard.
